The last year or so has been a dry spell for your Supersonicsoul writers, as you may have guessed by the sparse updates we've provided. And while I'm sure you're all thrilled to read about the ongoing misfortunes of Aubrey McClendon, I'm also sure that you'd rather be reading about basketball.
So, what to do? I'm loathe to start writing about basketball in a generic, league-wide way. There are a million sites already doing that and, quite frankly, I really don't like the non-Sonic portion of the NBA anyways.
The stadium saga is also uninteresting to me, at least in an ongoing, day after day analysis. To be perfectly blunt, I'm really not in favor of Seattle spending any money on a new arena (Libertarian economics, woot!), any more than I'm favor of the city spending money on any other idea that sucks money from taxpayers and hands it to billionaires. Sure, the oft-discussed Ballmer Plan is about as good as it gets for these boondoggles, but what is the end result of Seattle building a new arena? The same blackmail b.s. we cried about for years and years that was pulled on us will be pulled on some other (New Orleans, Memphis, et al) city. Do I really want any part of that sort of chicanery? No, a thousand times no.
However, I do enjoy writing, and I do enjoy the Sonics, and since there's nothing to write about for the present, non-existing team, that leaves the past. And that's what I'm going to do.
I was looking up something about a former Sonic player the other day, and noticed the Wikipedia entry was woefully short. That, of course, reminded me of the stark description of Art Harris that sparked a story a couple of years ago, and led me to this idea: Write a 700-or-so word description of every player who donned a Sonic uniform.
Think of it as Supersonicpedia. If you want to know more about Bob Rule than just what you can find on Wikipedia, you can come to Supersonicsoul.com for, well, not the complete story, but at least a larger portrait. The goal is to put up at least two of these a week, meaning I should finish this project some time after my 7-year-old graduates from high school. To further flush out the story, if you have additional information about a player you feel should be included, just add it to the comments and we (I) can revise the story. Personal anecdotes of drinking binges, card playing, and crazy on-court mishaps are always appreciated.
Today, the series starts with former Sonic Henry Akin.
