The big story out of Sports Business Journals' report on NBA television ratings is that the Spurs are insanely popular in San Antonio and that LeBron James' departure hurt the Cavs' as much in TV ratings as it did on the basketball court.
But if you look at the ratings more closely, you'll notice one club amongst the bottom dwellers of particular interest to Seattle fans - Oklahoma City. The bottom six teams in rankings were Minnesota, New Jersey, Memphis, Milwaukee, Charlotte, and OKC. (NOTE: New Orleans and Toronto's data was not available to SBJ).
What do those clubs have in common? Well, Memphis, Charlotte and Milwaukee have all been on the "Soon To Move" list at some point, and the T-Wolves and Nets were flat-out dreadful this year. With an electric roster full of young stars and a dynamite GM, it's crazy that OKC would appear on the same list as the dregs of the NBA.
And while OKC supporters would point to the fact that their team's ratings jumped 50% this season, I would point to the fact that Minnesota's jumped 69% and the Wolves are in more disarray than Aubrey McClendon's stock portfolio.
Of course, when Tulsa gets electricity next year, all bets are off ...

That move still seems crazy to the NBA from a business perspective. Yeah they're (sort of) popular in OKC now, but they have the most exciting young team in the league. Imagine the revenue they'd be getting in a market like Seattle!
Good thing Bubba is on top of this relocation thing. When he moves the Kings to Tulsa, the NBA will have 100% percent of the coveted, 44th-place, Texas' Hat market.
LOL. No one in Seattle gave a damn about their own team until they were gone (and after the Thunder became one of the best teams in the NBA). Your like children. It's done. As humans we evolve and move past "problems," so please do that instead of trying to stake a claim after the THUNDER have become a great team.
There is a reason why markets are ranked the way they are. OKC will never have a strong revenue from their market. It is what it is. The financial success of Jokelahoma's franchise will depend squarely on the shoulders of extensive public subsidy.
Funny that regardless of how great people talk about the Blunder being...some of their fans still come to a "lowly" Sonics blog?
Same thing over here in europe. The Sonics were the biggest team of the 90th (beside of the Bulls) and there are still Kemp-Jerseys out there. I´ve never seen a OKC-Jersey.
Seattle is a great city and is in one line with towns you travel to like NY or Boston. OKC is nothing to that.
The NBA ruined it with the relocation in the big picture even from a buisness-p.o.v.
i'm not sure very many markets carry fs oklahoma, could be wrong
I have no problem with critical comments, but if you're going to come on this site and say nasty things about Sonic fans, you've got to have a name. Anonymous = Deletion when it comes to insults.
I don't see why it seems like EVERY sonics fan has to bash and hate on Oklahoma so much. Hate Clay Bennett. But my state didn't do anything to you that any other market wanting to create more jobs and revenue for their home wouldn't do.
