Oden Out for Year

Unbelievable. According to multiple sources (here's one of them), Greg Oden is out for the year after having exploratory surgery on his knee in Vancouver on Thursday. I'm not sure if they meant Vancouver, BC or Vancouver, WA, but I'm assuming it's the Washington one, since the line-up for health care in BC would mean that Oden would get his surgery sometime next March.

More to come later, but, wow, that sucks for Portland.

Thanks to Frank for the tip in the comments section.

  1. So, Nuss, still think that trading up to get Oden is/was a good idea? KD for ROY!

  2. Unless the knee rumors was known before the draft (which by the way there were reports of knee problems that Pitchard quickly dismissed before the draft) then Oden was the clean cut choice to take with the number #1 pick. By the way, ripping Nuss for wanting Oden is just a petty cheap shot.

Why, because once you drafted Oden you could have pitched it to Lewis that they weren't building for the future but for now. And most likely Allen wouldn't have been traded on draft day. Seeing that Allen wasn't traded on draft day until it was a know quantity that they had drafted Durant (the man they'd rebuild for the future around) instead of Oden (a building block of the present). Obviously hind sight is 20/20, but I still contend that Oden would have been Seattle's pick if they landed the #1 pick. However, it looks like some one upstairs let things break the Sonics way on this one. Perhaps, that same deity will help us fan keep our beloved team in Seattle too!!!

  3. Easy, man, I was just joking around. I think everybody knows that the Sonics made the right move by sitting tight with Durant at #2. I just thought it was a good opportunity to poke some fun!

  4. This Bill Simmons column will make you grateful to be a Sonics fan right now rather than a Blazers fan:

    Incredible.

  5. P.S. I'm a big Simmons fan, and he convinced of Durant over Oden months before the draft. I think both teams were gonna pick Oden first, which is why I've always been oddly relieved that we got the second pick. Little did I know, though! I feel for Blazer fans big-time, I really want to see them thrive almost as much as the Sonics, a few western conference finals between the two would be awesome (as long as we come out on top)...

  6. Man, I was CONVINCED that the Sonics screwed up by not giving the Blazers anything they wanted (say this year's #2 and three future first rounders) for the #1 pick.

Wow, sure glad that didn't happen.

  7. Boston must be counting their blessings right about now. Imagine, they tanked the season to get Oden. They would be rioting in the streets this morning if the had gotten the #1 pick (ie no Ray, no KG...).

  8. Or imagine if Boston had gotten the #2 pick, and still traded Jefferson, Ratliff, etc. to get KG. Then they'd have Pierce, Garnett, and Durant. Much better way for KD to break in than in Seattle (except he wouldn't get nearly as many shots there as here).
