That's the pick. Here's the bio from nbadraft.net.
He's a big-time transition player, and now he's a Sonic.
Reasons to be excited:
- Westbrook is tenacious, fast, and a good defender. He can guard any PG, and most SGs. He can get in the lane and score and can run the offense relatively well.
Reasons not to be excited:
- He shot 17 of 31 at the line this year. He made 31 3's in his NCAA career, or as many as some guys make in a couple of weeks. He doesn't have a good outside shot.
Hey, wait, don't the Sonics already have a UCLA point guard who can't shoot?
Earl Watson can give you damn near everything that Russell Westbrook will provide during his first few years in the NBA.
ReplyDeleteThat's not a ringing endorsement.
Mr. Luke Ridnour to the white courtesy phone, Mr. Ridnour to the white courtesy phone, please ....
ReplyDeleteWhy in the world would you take him when Kevin Love was still available? Absolutely stupid.
ReplyDeleteBrook Lopez & Kevin Love > Russell Westbrook ...
ReplyDeleteThe NBA is being dominated by point guards right now...deron williams, chris paul..I think an excellent defender at the 1 is nothing to scoff at.
ReplyDeletewestbrook over bayless? I'm not so sure about this, bayless seems like an elite scorer, but his stock dropped over the last couple of days--presti must be obsessed with defense (westbrook's hairdo is enough to make any player stutter a bit.)
ReplyDeleteIf I'm wagering on who's going to be a better player 3 years from now, I'm betting on Westbrook more than Love OR Lopez.
ReplyDeleteYeah, he's not a superstar PG. He's not Chris Paul. He's not Steve Nash.
But he's fast as hell, he already knows how to play defense, and the Sonics already have plenty of offense with KD. Let's assume Presti goes for someone like CDR with the #24 pick. Now you've got CDR/KD for offense, and Green/Collison/Westbrook for defense. Trade Weezy for another pick/older big man shot blocker, and now you've got yourself a much better team.
trade earl. ridnour is the perfect playmaker complement to westbrook's D at the 1.
ReplyDeleteStill waiting to see if Presti moves up with the other pick to get something around the #15 or so. Give us some Speights, Sam!

ReplyDeleteHow much farther will Bayless fall????
ReplyDeleteNY picking Galinari and Charlotte picking Augustin are the worst picks so far.
ReplyDeleteJerryd Bayless would've been better off with the Sacramento Kings or the Portland Trailblazers rather than the Indiana Pacers, as Larry Bird has obtained a surplus of guards with his recent moves. It'll be interesting to see if Bird can find any takers for Jamaal Tinsley, who'll be a challenge to deal elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteWell, Jason Thompson -- along with the Italian and D.J. Augustin -- is another bad pick. The Kings already have Brad Miller, Mikki Moore, Spencer Hawes, and Sheldon Williams -- as well as washed-up, over-the-hill has-beens in Kenny Thomas and Shareef Abdur-Rahim -- taking up roster space.
definitely, i was hoping to see bayless go to a team where he could take over the reins right off the bat so i could really compare westbrook-bayless in 08-09.
ReplyDeleteand i wanted to see mayo in a larger market than minn.
this draft's a bit off, im waiting for trades.
The Portland Trail Blazers reportedly acquired Ike Diogu and the draft rights of Jerryd Bayless for Jarrett Jack and the draft rights of Brandon Rush.
ReplyDeleteYeah, uh, Kevin Pritchard is the goddamn man.
I might be a dumbass, but I enjoy the Lopez twins' stoner mentality.
ReplyDeleteToo bad Speights went to Philly at #16 - I was really hoping to see him in green and gold this season. The guy went from high second round to mid-first round in the span of about three weeks, no?
ReplyDeleteDo we take arthur (if he drops) or CDR?
ReplyDeleteHORRIBLE pick. We just drafted Earl Watson to replace Earl Watson.
ReplyDeleteJesus.
OK City, you can have them. I want a new god damn team from the ground up.
This may very well turn out to be the worst 4th overall pick ever.
With all due respect, who is Westbrook? I thought I know basketball and watch a few games in the Pac 10 on TV, but his talent or maybe lack thereof is the reason, his name did not register in my Noggin.
