Moore Dealt

The Sonics traded Mikki Moore to New Jersey today for a 2nd round pick in the 2009 draft. The Sonics roster now looks like this:

C - Sene, Swift, Petro
PF - Wilcox (?), Collison, Fortson
SF - Lewis, Gelabale, Wilkins
SG - Allen, Wilkins, Gelabale, Brown (?)
PG - Ridnour, Watson

Add it up and it's 13 guys, so we're still looking at a one, maybe two roster spots still available. Noel Felix impressed the heck out of everyone at the Rocky Mountain Revue (just curious ... am I the only one who thinks the Sonics' summer league sounds like something gay cowboys would put on?), so Felix may have an even better chance of making the roster. Otherwise, the Sonics may look to add another PG as a 3rd-stringer.

i always thought the revue it sounded very ned flanders-esque myself. either that, or something that country stars would play on their way back down the totem pole.

Gay cowboys in Salt Lake City? Not very likely.

This somewhat insignificant move indicates to me the following:

1. Salary dump.

2. Wilcox will be signed (although probably for only the one-year tender).

3. No takers for Fortson.

4. Roster spot now open for an additional guard (PG or SG... whoever shines the most coming out of training camp.

I suppose it's a bit of a salary dump, but you can't really blame the Sonics, since Moore had no place on the team, and they can get a minimum-salary guy to sit on the bench, right?

I'm starting to think the Sonics are better off keeping Fortson as long as they can. Teams are always willing to give up something good at deadline time - imagine if the Suns are kind of struggling this year (well, not struggling, but not blowing people away either), they'd be much more likely to do the Fortson/Lewis for Marion trade that was rumored before. From what I understood, the only reason it didn't happen was because of Fort's troubles with the older Colangelo...

Writing was on the wall for Moore since the draft.

I saw Nick Collison at Olympia Pizza & Pasta on QA last night. Exciting, I know.

Rich, you are hereby deputized to get any info you can on the Sonics. Just tell Nick you're with supersonicsoul. I'm sure he'll tell you whatever you want.

You know who's out there as a back-up point guard free agent? That's right, Gary Payton!

Now that Schultz is out of the way, let the reunions begin! If the Sonics are going to leave anyways, I say bring back Gary, sign Shawn to a one-year with a marijuana clause, wait for Karl to get fired in Denver (you know it's coming), and let the good times roll!

Toppings?

"let the good times roll!"

Kemp would have a tough time with that if you install the hemp clause.

I want a Seattle SuperChronics Jersey #420 with the name HEMP, on the back. That would be so sweet, to bad I quit the ganja.

How can you possibly call Mikki Moore a salary dump?!? what do you want him to do, be a stiff in place of younger developing centers?

Keep Fortson. Why not? Sometimes he even comes to play, and even if he doesn't suit up he'll probably make the big kiddies in the middle a little better in practice or film sessions.

...

isn't there some great shooter from the area, either a gonzaga or u-dub guy available for that end of the bench guard spot? A Blake Stepp or Tre Simmons? I mean, at that point, why not?
...

Gary Payton is still alive?!? I wasn't aware. God bless him.

thought for the moment: Olympia Pizza in Seattle. Last I was back home in cap city i recall no "olympia pizza," nor any "seattle pizza" in olympia. i find that odd all the way around.

I was thinking Will Conroy wouldn't be bad to have at the end of the bench, but I wouldn't be surprised if Mike Wilks is the guy.

I'm a little worried, to be honest, about this whole Wilcox thing. From what I read, it sounds like he's going to get alot less money than he wanted to. Does anybody know of a time where that HASN'T ended badly? You could say if he signs a one-year, he'll have to prove himself and he'll play well, but that didn't exactly work with Radmanovic, Evans, and Flip, did it?

man its hard to still be excited about the sonics when (im sure) we're headed to new orleans.

You quit the weed biggie? I thought the reason that RJ Hasty and Chancellor Young were ruled acedemically ineligible was becuase they were skipping class to smoke blunts with you. I guess not.

"but that didn't exactly work with Radmanovic, Evans, and Flip, did it?"

Well, it did and it didn't. Radman settled for less money, and undoubtedly will be getting even fewer shots with Kobe and Odom taking threes all day. He might even be asked to get in there and *gasp* rebound!

Flip, however, parlayed the trade into a nice little contract on the Pistons. Once he got traded, he really impressed people in the East with his ability to penatrate and score. The downside: he might be asked to play a little defense, too.

Evans has not been signed yet, and the market for forwards is quite a bit down this year (see: Wilcox, Chris)

Lets get rid of Fortson. I'm just afraid of him sitting down too hard on the end of the bench and launching Luke Ridnour into the 12 row. That could cause an injury...

I actually meant it didn't work from the Sonics' point of view, not the players' point of view. Last year it seemed like the free agency of those 3 guys was a great big thorn in the side of the team - especially the way Radmanovic was bitching about PT (and Evans, a little bit). It's just a unnedessary distraction, if you ask me.

As for the players, Radman got less money than he wanted, Flip screwed up ( or his agent screwed up), and he wound up getting less money from the Pistons than they had offered him 3 weeks previous (seriousyl, they offered him $2 mil a year, he turned it down, couldn't get any better offers, and then the Pistons were left with a $1 mil. a year exception and Flip had to take it: not exactly brilliant tactics on their part), and Reggie is unemployed (or has he re-signed in Denver, I don't think so).

Only having one guy go through it this season would be a much smaller thorn. Wilcox also has those three before him as an example that if you don't bust your ass, you won't get the cash.
