Payton Memories: Part II

PAUL:
I was going to say when he "stepped up like a MAN" (in KC's immortal words) during the '92 playoffs against Golden State, hitting some late game free throws to seal the upset victory over the Warriors. Or the incredible half-court alley-oops to Shawn Kemp (of course, most of the credit for those should go to the Reign-Man I suppose.

But really, my favorite memory is running into him in the parking lot across from the Key during his rookie year and realizing we were about the same height (I'm 5'9). Six-four my ass!

Definitive song: "Naw, Not in My House" - Sir Mix-a-Lot

("Hand in Glove" by The Smiths just didn't seem right).

... you're 5'9 and he was the same height? Probably wasn't Payton

It was definitely Payton. Trust me. I was exaggerating a bit, but he was probably about 6' at most. NBA players lie big-time about their height.

Chunkstyle and Chunkstyle's bro, back me up! You were there too!

(It was back when they used to do Draft parties on the big screen, the summer after Payton's rookie year.)

yeah, I remember that day. It was Paul, Chunkstyle, myself, and Adam Slind. Adam was 6'4" and he had GP by about 2-3 inches easily. of course we were all really too scared to to turn around and acknowledge him BUT the next day we were all like "Yeah, we met Gary Payton! He was paying for parking just like us normal folk!" Ahhh the memories...

Holy crap. The things you find when you google your name. That was definately The Glove we saw on our way to the Paramount. Him and his sweet, pimped out Jeep Cherokee. What stands out most to me isn't running into Payton, but the fact that the Clippers would've stuck us with Don Maclean had they drafted Doug Christie instead of Randy Woods. I guess it didn't really matter in hindsight. He was merely window dressing when trading Benwaw (French pronunciation) for Perkins.
