More Evins

Remember the bit in the Bible where God says He'd spare Sodom if Abraham could find 50 righteous men*? I was reminded of that story from my church-going days when I read this comment on last week's post:

I never watched pro basketball much until the Thunder came to OKC. On a whim I got season tickets and split them with family. Over the years I've become a die hard fan and my boy has grown up watching the team. Now he yells and cheers and gets mad when I make him go to bed for the Celtics games. Im truly happy for the Thunder but watching my boy I realize what you lost and why it sucks so bad! If he lost his team it would be gut wrenching for me. I truly hope you get a team again. Any fans who keep a blog up four years later are obviously true fans in my book! Hopefully you get a team again soon so I can travel to Seattle for a Sonics Thunder game!
I shall spare thee, OKC**. Just findeth me 49 more Evins.

Genesis 18:26***
** No, no, I'm not saying I'm God or have any smiting abilities on my resume. No, I just speak for Him. KIDDING AGAIN.
*** Actually, The more appropriate line would be Jeremiah 5:1, where God says He'd forgive Jerusalem if there was ONE righteous dude there. Pssh, way to play favorites, GOD.

Pretty sure we're the only basketball blog on Earth that can quote bible verses one day and post cartoons about obscure NBA journeymen the next. WE WIN!

Ha! I totally thought Pete wrote this. I guess the fancy font-size work should have been a dead giveaway. Nice work, cub reporter!

I know, the whole time I was writing it, I was thinking about how Bible-thumping is totally Pete's territory.

Believe it or not, most of us here in OKC share that view. We are stoked that we have the Thunder are here, but it sucks the way the whole thing went down. It's an ugly business when it gets down to it and it sucks that the fans are the ones that have to suffer when something like that happens. You guys didn't deserve to lose them just as much as we deserved to have a team. There is a bunch of good people here, OKC is not a hell hole like it's perceived. By no means do we hate Seattle. It just gets old to get made fun of all the time. We don't know why they use your history here either. That championship and everything that goes with it is yours, it shouldn't even be mentioned here.

Davey--Thanks being one of the (very) few Citizens to display some class and empathy, as opposed to the shrill, gloating, classless ingrates we usually get. I suppose it is unfair to judge a fanbase strictly by the knuckleheads who troll the Sonics blogs and FB pages. It's very encouraging to know that there's at least a couple folks like you over there.

Glad to see you guys that it looks like you are getting the arena deal settled. We were actually expecting to get the Hornets back then. Quite a few of the players moved here back then. Some of Chris Paul's family stayed here. The Sonics deal took us by surprise as well. We were just excited that something was coming here, just unfortunate that it was your team. Pro sports felt incredibly distant living here, like it was just a TV show that you watched. They have changed the entire culture of the state. Growing up here, I never would have thought we would see anything like this, much less be one of the best teams in the league. Again, very unfortunate that it happened the way it did.
