It's Official

News reports here and here. Note that the approval is pending the "lease litigation" coming up this June, so, as expected, it's a "Yes, but" approval.

The final vote was 28-2, with only Mark Cuban and Paul Allen (via proxy) voting against the move.

Props to Cuban and Allen for having balls.

Wow - hope everyone else is watching the king 5 feed - David Stern just snapped at the King5 reporter (chris daniels) for interrupting him.

And it gets better ... now Clay is saying that he was a "man possessed" to keep the Sonics in Seattle.

Gross.

Actually the real surprise here is that Paul Allen voted against the move.

Huge props to him, given that outside of Clay Bennett, he has by far the most to gain by a Sonics departure.

Yes and no. Allen lives in Seattle and owns the EMP as well as the Seahawks. While the amount of hatred he would receive wouldn't be HoShu-esque for a YES vote, it would be notable.

I think he decided that: 1) he didn't like the idea of the Sonics moving and 2) it didn't matter how he voted since the thing was going to pass anyways. It's easy to have courage when you know there are no repercussions. I'd be interested to see how Allen voted if his was the deciding vote; he might not be so courageous then.

I agree with Nuss (what a shock that is) that Allen had little to lose by voting no, and that his resolve wouldn't be so quick if the passing of the vote hinged on his voting yes.

I'm curious to see if the city is truly serious about keeping Bennett to the lease or not. That's the only remaining part that's even remotely intriguing over this scenario. Everything else is just blah blah blah at this point.

Seattle to Stern: Do you like your scorched earth Stalingrad 1942 style, or Berlin 1945 style?

Stay classy, Oklahoma!

should we be shocked? Have you noticed there has been some hostility from OK fans towards us recently? It's not our fault this is the most exciting thing to ever happen in OK City.....EVER! I hope that they never get a team and are forced to suffer everytime Kevin Durant goes for 40 and leads the Seattle Sonics deep into the playoffs

Dear Seattle,

I hope you give Stern and the NBA hell.

Big whoop on Allen's no vote. It's not like he's going to need to rape Portland for a new arena or move any time soon. He doesn't really need to be pals with the other owners.

Cheers to Mark Cuban. He is a real Maverick!

What idiots you Seattle fans are, OH MY GOD you guys are so lame" WE WANT OUR TEAM BACK,THATS NOT FAIR, HE CANT DO THAT" BLAH BLAH BLAH... i bet the next time an owner tells you they need renovations you'll listen.lol Stop whining , the team is gone, there is nothing you lamos can do. welcome to America Seattle, in this country once you sell something you no longer own it, and what better way to learn that valuable lesson than to watch Kevin Durant embark on a hall of fame career in the "GREAT" state of Oklahoma.
