Summer Leagues Finis

The Seattle SuperSonics were led in scoring by reserve guard Olu Famutimi, who scored 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting.Well, the summer leagues are over for another year, and all we have to look forward to is training camp, which is a month or so in the future. Fortunately, the Sonics managed to right their winless ways towards the end of the Rocky Mountain Revue, posting a 2-1 record overall after finishing 0-for-Vegas.

Shockingly, Johan Petro was great on offense throughout the Utah series, scoring 20, 7, and 12 points in the three games, this after a horrific group of games in Las Vegas. The young Frenchman added 25 boards to go with the scoring, putting him at the top echelon of rebounders in the Revue. Mo Sene had one stellar outing, and two not-so-stellar ones. To be fair, I’m only going by boxscores, since the games haven’t been put up on the internet yet, but that’s coming soon.

Quinton Hosley, who we profiled a week ago, had a great outing against the Bulls, but was limited to 6 minutes in the final game with the Mavericks, scoring a remarkable 9 points in that limited time span. Can’t tell you why Q only got that much run. (Got to love when a guy gets 6 FTA in 6 minutes; that's 48 FTA in a full game, for those that are mathematically inclined; for those that are not, that’s one big boatload of FTA).

But you’re wondering, what about Zabian Dowdell? Well, our erstwhile young point guard found himself trapped on the bench for the first two games, before scrambling to the floor in a 9-point, 1-assist effort as the Sonics emptied the bench in the final game.

Dowdell was stuck behind Will Blalock, the former Husky who managed to steer the Sonics in a much more efficient manner than the point guards who preceded him in Vegas. Blalock finished with 16 assists in three games.

In other Sonic news, Andre Brown has signed with the Grizzlies, the Kings are looking at Mike Wilks, Kevin Durant scored 22 points in an intrasquad game of Olympians (which, combined with his efforts during practice, caused Dave McMenamin to label him one of the six or seven best players there), David Locke examines the Kurt Thomas trade, and Nick Collison will be invited to the Olympic mini-camp in August, in Jerry Colangelo’s continuing efforts to find at least one decent white guy to play on the Olympic team.

I'm sure I speak for everyone (if I don't speak for you keep your mouth shut) when I say I was thrilled to learn that David "the Schmuck" Locke was fired from his Sonics job, he's the worst ever. Please do not revive his tripe by linking to an "article" by aforementioned douchebag.

Perhaps Petro and Sene caught a glimpse of Las Vegas' add campaign "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas," because definitely left their horrible play behind. Here's hoping they don't leave their good play in Utah.

Actually, Quinton Hosley did his damage in the first 5:55 of the game, and never played after that, so maybe he tweaked something or the Sonics decided they saw all they needed to see.

It's strange, for sure. He was the best player in the 1st quarter, and then nothing after? I can only assume he tweaked an ankle and the team figured there's no sense risking further injury in a game which meant nothing.

David Locke was always kind to The Soul, and that's enough for me to like him. (I'm kinda slutty that way)

"Hate" a player, an announcer, a radio host, an owner...

There is a lot of "hate" thrown around on basketball boards. It may be hyperbole in some cases but I find it off-putting. So "the bigo" you definitely don't speak for me and I tune that stuff out.

Sometimes "hate" is used directly. It wasn't in this case I should clarify. But the dislike is pretty strong.

And made me recall a number of other posts I've seen other places recently going off on other teams, a particular Sonic, etc. casually using "hate". There are some things so evil hate is an honest almost unavoidable reaction but in sports I'll stop at not a big fan or don't like. I don't speak for others,if the way you enjoy the emotional drama of sports takes you to that word or that spirit that's your choice. I'm just adding my take.

You can catch all the Seattle games at the Revue on NBATV starting today. The Utah game is on at 5pm PST, and the Chicago game is on at 10pm PST and again tomorrow. Also tomorrow you can catch the Dallas game at 5pm PST.

Thanks for the tip.

I HATE when idiots log on as anonymous.

thebigo is still anoynymous in practical terms.

I don't care about screennames, mostly basketball, so I'll leave it there.

To be fair, it does help if you use some kind of name so we can keep track of the conversation. I'm thinking of removing the anonymous option because of this. It takes two seconds to type in your name, folks!

Sonics-Bulls game is coming on NBATV right now.

Will Blalock is a former Iowa State Cyclone, not Husky. He's also a very nice looking point guard entering his second year. A team would be dumb not to sign this guy, especially since you can get him for under a million a year.

Nuss said...

Brain slip on that one; I meant to type Hawkeye and put Husky in instead. Don't know where that came from. Must have been thinking about Will Conroy or something ...

Ugh. Cyclone. Too much typing today ...
